Rogelio: Esperanza Rising is the story of a rich family in Mexico that loses the[ir] patriach and there are some evil things that happen that cause Esperanza and her mom to move to the United States. They become farmworkers so they have to live a whole different kind of life. There is a lot of good themes in the book and lessons to be learned from it.
Alma: Did you mention that you are reading it with your classroom?
Rogelio: I'm reading it with my 4th grade classroom.
Alma: So you are an educator?
Rogelio: Yes.
Alma: Oh, that's awesome! Have you read it before? Or is this your first time?
Rogelio: Yeah, every year I read it. The kids love it, so every year – that's one of the books I bring out for the kids to read.
Alma: Aw, I love that, that's wonderful.
Rogelio: They love the drama...
Alma: (Laughs) the drama...
Rogelio: (Laughs) It's drama, that book is drama.

Rogelio: Esperanza renace es la historia de una familia rica en México que vive la pérdida de su patriarca y suceden algunas cosas malignas a Esperanza y a su mamá que las obligan a desplazarse a los Estados Unidos. Trabajan como campesinas y se ven obligadas a vivir una vida muy distinta. El libro tiene buenos temas y se pueden aprender buenas lecciones.
Alma: ¿Mencionaste que lo estás leyendo con tu clase?
Rogelio: Lo estoy leyendo con mi clase de cuarto grado.
Alma: ¿Entonces, usted se dedica a la enseñanza?
Rogelio: Sí.
Alma: ¡Genial! ¿Lo has leído antes? ¿O es tu primera vez?
Rogelio: Sí, lo leo cada año. A los niños les encanta, y pues cada año es uno de los libros que les saco a los chavos.
Alma: Ahhh. Me encanta, qué bonito.
Rogelio: Aman el drama…
Alma: (Risas) el drama…
Rogelio: (Risas) Es drama, ese libro es drama.
