Book/Libro: Parable of the Sower - Octavia Butler

ENGLISH

Alejandra: My name is Alejandra León and the book that I chose as my favorite book is Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler. I absolutely love, love, love this book and it's a book that I believe everybody should read. It's a dystopian sci fi book that was written in 1993, and at this point in time, when the book was released, it took place in the future. Fun fact, the book opens up in the year 2024, which is the year that we're in right now. It's really interesting to see Octavia's vision for what she believed the future was going to look like. The book touches on a lot of different topics, such as global warming, economic collapse, global catastrophe, addiction–just political turmoil [ ... ]. However, the beautiful thing about the book is that it's rooted in hope, and it's rooted in characters that want to see a better future. They lean on community, they lean on their discipline, self discipline, and hope in order to create a better future for themselves. Which is why I love the book. The main characters are amazing, and they really embody what it means to build a community outside of your regular, classic nuclear family. [They demonstrate] what the future can look like once we turn to others for support and help and really lean on each other during times of crisis. I hope you read the book. It's amazing.

“The beautiful thing about the book is that it's rooted in hope, and it's rooted in characters that want to see a better future.”
